Pack 820 in Chapel Hill Christmas Parade
Cub Scout Pack 820 in Chapel Hill had a terrific weekend October 3-5 at Singletary Lake, located near Elizabethtown NC.
Over 65 cubs, parents and siblings attended and enjoyed activities such as canoeing, swimming, a nature hike and presentation
from the camp ranger about the history of the plants and animals. On Saturday night, everyone enjoyed skits, singing
around the campfire and best of all, s’mores (graham crackers with toasted marshmallows and chocolate in the center.). The Pack will be participating in the Chapel Hill Christmas parade on Saturday December 13th at 10 AM. Each scout
will carry their own decorated flag with them in the parade. The pack welcomes other cubs and those interested in joining
the cub scouts. For more information, check out our website at www.pack820.org or contact Tom Proctor at 919-942-6522. Tom Proctor is owner of Vacuum Cleaner Hospital and content provider of this page.
Cub Scouts is a wonderful environment for your boy to learn outside of a school classroom. Of course, making scouting
fun is what it’s all about and what the leadership strives for. Camping trips are very popular and occur at least
once a year. The boys also participate in other activities such as Christmas parades, trash pick-ups and other civic activities.
The majority of a Pack’s activity occurs at the den level. That is where the scout really learns how
to interact with their fellow den members and many different skills. Parent involvement is required for a boy to be
involved. For example, when the cubs go camping, a parent must attend with their child. The same goes for the
den and Pack meetings but most parents cherish the time they get to spend with their boy(s) in these settings.
Scouting is thriving in Orange County NC, which includes Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough and several other smaller
communities. We’re lucky to have excellent leadership at the District (county) level and that makes a big difference
on the individual Packs (Cubs) and Troops (Boy Scout). Cub Scouts is part of the Boy Scouts of America and is where
the Boy Scout troops derive most of their members. Boys can join the Cub Scouts as early as first
grade and must be 6 years or older. Each grade level has its own name for their den, Tigers (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade),
etc. and the great thing is boys can join any time they’d like. In other words, a boy can join in the 3rd grade
without having been a Tiger or Wolf.
